Prague public transportation
ticket system

You can buy Prague transportation tickets at Tabak shops, newspaper stands, post offices, using numerous vending machines at all metro stations and at major tram stops. In Czech you can ask “Jizdenky prosim” “Tickets please”.

Information on sales points of single tickets and tourists pass and the procedure of buying single tickets using vending machines, you can find here.

The same ticket may be used on metro, tram or bus, including transfer from one to the other, during its set time period.

Actual information on prices and on validity of single tickets and touristic passes you can find here.

After you buy a single ticket you have to validate (stamp) it by putting it into a yellow small validating machine. It is usually placed in the area of the entrance to the metro or at various columns in the bus or tram. Simply imitate locals.

Ticket inspectors

Have your ticket ready all the time while using the transport and doing transfers until its expiration.

Tickets are not checked upon boarding, but ticket inspectors are often take control. So called “Riding black” could become an “expensive joke”. An unstamped ticket is invalid and the ticket inspector can fine you 900 CZK (36 EURO). In case of an on-the-spot payment the fine could be reduced to 500 CZK (25 EURO).

If you plan to stay in the city for more than two days there is a big chance that you will be checked.

Be careful about false ticket inspectors. They operate mainly on trams between “Malostranske námesti” station and Praha castle.

Always ask for identification card/pin.
