Prague by car

To get to Prague using highway all the way from boarders is today possible only from two directions. The highway network is not completed yet and hopefully will be finished in 5-8 years.

Tourist coming from the south/west - Germany

You can use highway A6 (it continues in the Czech Republic as D5, international D50) through Plzeň directly to Praha. The distance from boarder is approximately 160 km. Under good conditions you can make it in an hour and half. Depending on the traffic.




Tourists coming from the east - Slovakia, Austria, Hungary

You can drive using the oldest highway D1, which is not in a good condition. Due to often reconstructions and accidents delays could occur. The distance from Slovak border to the capital is 250 km and under ideal conditions it takes around 2,5 hours.




Drivers from the north/west – Germany

You can use international highway A17 to the border with the Czech republic and then up to the Ústí nad Labem. Between Ústí nad Labem and Lovosice, you have to use local roads. The highway D8, international E55 starts again in town of Lovosice and continues directly to the capital. The distance is about 60 km.




Visitors from the north – Germany, Poland

You can use highway R10, international E65 from Liberec. This road is mainly used to get access to best Czech skiing resorts situated in Krkonoše and Jizerské hory. The distance is about 100 km.




Drivers coming from the north/east - Poland

You can take advantage of the new highway D11, international E67, between the capital and Hradec Králové. The distance is about 110 km.
