Searching for Prague accommodation possibilities?

Prague was not very much visited and opened for tourism before 1989. The Prague accommodation has changed dramatically after The Velvet revolution in 1989.

Plenty of new hotels, apartments, pensions, hostels and private accommodations are available today for tourists coming from all of the world.

The top tourist season is from April to October, around Christmas and New Year and of course weekends and other holidays. In this period of time it is better to book your Prague accommodation couple of weeks ahead and be ready that prices could be higher.

Accommodation standards - the number of stars does not usually correspond with international regulations. Do not rely solely on the star rating system when choosing a hotel. It is not a subject to any kind of monitoring or inspection. Accommodation in a four stars hotel can be therefore sometimes cheaper than in a three stars hotel.

Majority of Prague accommodation options are within walking distance form the center. The public transportation is effective so you do not have to worry that you will spend most of your time on trams and/or buses.

Botels

For those looking for something a little bit different, a 'botel' (boat hotel) may be an appealing option. Many of them are situated at the Vltava river. The most favorite one is Admiral.

Camping

You can find directly in the city and vicinity numerous campsites. But in the peak season they can get very crowded.

Useful tips

  • Hotels tend to be booked in tourist season you should book your accommodation ahead, preferably at least by few weeks.

  • Except for the cheapest hostels, all lodgings offer breakfast, usually a self-service buffet of hot and cold food.
  • Hotels usually have restaurants serving meals but for a quite high prices. It is better to get an idea on Prague's restaurant prices checking out the menu in other restaurants - usually displayed by front entrances.
  • Most of Prague hotels and pensions offer a price per room, not per person.
  • Hostels, on the other hand, also offer beds in dormitories and state a price per bed. Some of them do not indicate how many beds are in the room.
